The Story of the Patriotic Man and the Money

A French woman was traveling by train from France to Britain. She was carrying a large amount of money, more than the amount allowed when entering Britain.
She sat next to a British man, who noticed that she seemed worried. He asked her what was wrong, and she told him the truth.
The man said:
“Don’t worry. We can divide the money between us. When we arrive, we can say that half belongs to you and the other half belongs to me.”
The woman agreed, believing that he was trying to help her.
But when they reached the checkpoint, she was shocked when the man went to the police and told them that the woman was carrying more money than allowed.
The police confiscated her money.
Then the man proudly said:
“I would never betray my country.”
The officers admired his patriotism and allowed him to continue his journey.
Two days later, the man went to the woman’s house.
She looked at him in disbelief and said:
“How dare you come to my house after what you did?”
The man smiled, took out an envelope, and gave it to her.
When she opened it, she found an amount of money larger than the amount the police had confiscated from her.
Then he said:
“I was carrying a much larger amount of money than you were. When I told the police about your small amount, they became busy with it and confiscated it. Meanwhile, I was able to pass through with my much larger amount without raising any suspicion.”
The woman then understood the truth.
The man had not been protecting his country. He had been using patriotism as a cover for his own theft and deception.

Not everyone who raises the flag of patriotism is truly patriotic, and not everyone who speaks about principles truly follows them.

Do not judge people by their slogans and words. Look at their actions and their true interests.
Sometimes, people use beautiful words to hide ugly actions.
Sometimes, the person who loudly claims to be patriotic may be the real thief.
