THE WOMAN BY THE RIVER (Episode 1)
Daniel hated rainy mornings.
The sky had been dark since dawn, and the sound of rain hitting his zinc roof made it impossible to sleep. He turned to the other side of his bed and stared at the cracked wall in silence.
Something felt wrong.
Not the normal kind of wrong—the kind that sits on your chest and refuses to leave.
His grandmother used to say, “When the river calls your name in your dreams, do not answer.”
Daniel never believed in old stories.
Until last night.
In the dream, he stood by Black River alone. The water was calm, too calm, like glass. Then he heard it.
“Daniel…”
A woman’s voice.
Soft. Sweet. Close.
He turned.
A woman in a white dress stood barefoot near the riverbank. Her long black hair covered half of her face, dripping wet as if she had just stepped out of the water.
“Come closer,” she whispered.
Daniel tried to move, but his legs felt heavy.
Then she slowly lifted her head.
Her face—
He woke up screaming.
Now, sitting on his bed, Daniel rubbed his face and laughed nervously.
“Just a dream,” he muttered.
But when he stood up and looked outside his window toward the river in the distance, he froze.
There.
Far away.
Near the riverbank.
A woman in white was standing completely still.
Watching his house.
To be continued…
