Some thoughts and reflections regarding the recent political development in Argentina:

Hey fellow Bulbers

I recently wrote the following notes about the recent presidential elections in Argentina.

- A long history of populism and destructive political behaviors where the political parties have been promoting impossible and unreasonable promises while voters have been expecting impossible and unreasonable actions by the government. The recent electoral results are part of a reaction against such development but are based on several problems and inconsistent ambitions.

- The new president, Javier Milei, has been labeled in different media as a far-right, libertarian, liberal, anarcho-capitalist, right-wing populist. One reason is that it has mixed and combined different values and ideas to attract voters. However, the labels are often problematic; for example, there is a big difference between being far-right and anarcho-capitalist. It is a labeling someone as a communist and democrat, or as a fascist and humanist. Far-right politics are often "left-wing" and against capitalism and liberal market economics since the far-right political parties, as in Europe, are promoting more government intervention and welfare spending.

- According to sociopolitical research, not many people admire freedom and individualism in economic topics with uniformity and collectivism in sociocultural topics. In fact, the more a person is negative and uncomfortable with cultural diversity, humanitarian immigration, and sexual minorities, the more one is going to like government intervention in the economy, higher taxation, and fewer private alternatives.

- Milei has, among other things, promised the abolishment of abortion rights. However, abortion rights are more typical for countries with higher levels of globalization adaptation and acceptance of economic openness and privatization. Also, being in favor of restrictive/repressive views on abortion in practice means demanding a repressive and controlling government spending money and energy on chasing and punishing women.

- The recent development results from many political and democratic problems in Argentina. There are also large differences between Milei and Donald Trump and mini-Trumps as in Europe. However, Milei is facing political resistance not only within the Argentinian parliamentary system since his political party lacks more seats and influence but also due to his promises that will be hard or impossible to deliver.
What are your thoughts? And opinions about the new president?
