Hysterics are people who have a personality trait called histrionics, which is defined as a general pattern of excessive emotionality and attention seeking. It is not a psychological disorder, but rather a form of expression that some people have. Any person can manifest some histrionic trait without their daily life being altered or conditioned. Histrionics (from this moment on) are people who suffer from a histrionic personality disorder, which is characterized by discomfort when not the center of attention, inappropriate provocative behaviors, a tendency to seduce, flat expression of emotions, calls for attention through physical appearance, dramatization and exaggeration of emotions. It is a disorder that has generally been attributed to women, but it can also affect men.

Histrionic personality is defined as a personality disorder through which the person who suffers from it constantly needs to attract attention and be the center of all meetings. It is said that the hysterical or histrionic person has a great need to be admired by others. To achieve this, sometimes their performance reveals an excess of drama or theatricality in their behavior. She considers her daily life to be boring and what should be a normal and routine activity does not satisfy her, needing to always seek new and exciting experiences. This often causes him to provoke situations that may seem somewhat extravagant, such as dressing provocatively or wearing strange or unusual clothing.

These people continually try to be the center of attention and often become depressed when they are not. They are often lively, dramatic, enthusiastic and flirtatious people, and sometimes attract new acquaintances. However, they can also show external behavioral traits such as egocentrism, emotional lability, tendency to act-out, lack of self-control, theatricalism, susceptibility to suggestion, tendency to imitation and superficial identification, little intellectual interest, superficiality and inconstancy in relationships. , manipulative dependence and inability to love others.

The histrionic personality can lead to an addiction to alcohol or substances due to the incessant search for a way out of their personal conflict. More in the long term it can cause anxious symptoms or depression. The treatment of histrionic personality is through adequate psychotherapeutic treatment and sometimes also requires the use of psychopharmacology. It is necessary to carry out adequate treatment because keeping this disorder uncontrolled can significantly affect the daily life of the person who suffers from it, especially with regard to social life, where they will encounter numerous frustrations and failures and also at the work level, where it usually produces instability due to the constant search for more rewarding jobs that makes them constantly change. This situation maintained for a time can generate depression and isolation.
