Hello

The rumors turned out to be true, at the developer conference, Apple showed its AR / VR headset, announced the beginning of a new era. As you know that the headset is not ready for sales, there is no software, and there is still a lot to be done. This turned out to be true, since neither Tim Cook nor anyone else named the day of the start of sales during the presentation. Apple's website indicates that it will be early next year, and until then, you can leave a request to be informed when the headset will be available. It might cost around $3,500 or more. If various taxes are added, we get a price of around $5,000. The headset costs the same as two top-of-the-line MacBook Pros.

Here, of course, you might be wondering why you're comparing a headset to a MacBook. Don't you understand that this is a completely different type of product, vision and revolution? But it's not me, but the Apple company that constantly compares its headset to the MacBook and shows how good it is for working with office documents, flipping through the browser, and participating in presentations. In fact, they said that working in a headset would be more interesting than using a computer.

In reality, there were two scenarios that were described. One is about work, the second is about home entertainment, when you can watch movies on a big “screen”, they can be voluminous, and you can even immerse yourself in some content. The drawn cartoons showed how Apple sees it, but the question here is how it will actually be. And there are many little things that can put an end to this venture, and it's not about money. Let's say you have them, you live in a small apartment where there are no large-screen TVs. This is how your life turned out in a bizarre way, and now let's talk about the ergonomics of the solution.

The front of the glasses is made of aluminum, there are control elements and that's it. The back part is made of matter, as light as possible.

The screw needs to fix the glasses on the head so that the hoop shrinks around it. Specifications are not given anywhere, since they are unprofitable for the company, the weight of the headset is unknown. But it is clearly not very light. And how long can you stay in such a headset without experiencing discomfort? How tense will the neck muscles be? This is exactly about comfortable watching movies in any environment? I think no.

And this is even considering that the battery is taken out of the headset, a wire always stretches to it, in which you can get confused. At the presentation, it was said that with such a battery, glasses can work for about two hours. Not much, but quite understandable.

For technology buffs, there's plenty of room to discuss how things work. To begin with, there are cameras inside that track the movement of your eyes. That is, they “see” where you are looking and highlight this element on the screen if you have an application interface in front of you. Sounds fantastic, but the technology is quite simple. Everyone can use glasses, including people who do not have 100% vision, they are adjusted to your diopters.

Management is due to the movement of the fingers, you do everything with your hands. It is possible to get used to such control methods, I don't see any difficulties in it. The question is why use such a headset, what can I do with it? I thought about scenarios that I might need, but I can't think of anything sensible to do. I have several VR helmets and headsets, and they don't have a single app in them that would make me pull them out more than once every few months. These are toys that are interesting to show to guests. But there are no daily use scenarios for me.

Trying to force me to type on a virtual keyboard, use virtual screens in a helmet is doomed to failure. I'm definitely not a supporter of hoisting a heavy headset on myself. And even more so to walk around the house in it - the cameras broadcast what you see around you, the delay is only 12 milliseconds. But this is just viewing reality through a certain filter. A very timely thing in a world where people are already lonely, and many stand up for real perception. Escapism is out of fashion these days.

Built-in screens have a high resolution, most likely, their quality will be excellent, you will not see individual dots. Curiously, the curved outer screen that shows off your "eyes" actually models them. For example, when you are chatting with someone, this screen makes it look like you are looking at the person.

A bunch of sensors, an M2 processor on board and a separate R1 processor responsible for all sensors, the headset is stuffed with electronics. And it is an expensive toy that one would definitely want to buy to show off their wealth. For fashionistas , this will be a must-have accessory, since at first it will be impossible to find a real use for it.

The market for AR/VR glasses and helmets has been developing for several years; Apple's long-term construction is entering a formed segment. And here the question arises, how the company will be able to attract attention to its product. The headset will be bought by those who can afford it. However, this tech innovation is perfect for the Metaverse industry.
