According to the Ogun State Government, a contract with the African Development Bank had been agreed to locate an agricultural testing company in Sagamu to support the ongoing Gateway Cargo Airport.

The airport, which is over 80 percent finished, will be financially sustainable when finished, according to the authorities. Ade Akinsanya, commissioner for works and infrastructure, mentioned this on Sunday while discussing the project.

Its potential, according to Akinsanya, is unquestionable because the entire area will serve as a hub for operations in all fields. The new cargo airport, in addition to being a project with excellent future prospects, will also be financially sustainable due to its location and the other facilities planned surrounding it as an aerotropolis, he said.

"Nearly 80% of the airport is finished. In order to serve the airport, an agreement has been signed with the African Development Bank to locate an agro-testing company in Sagamu. The testing facility will ensure that Nigeria exports more agricultural goods. Some of these products are currently unable to be exported outside due to certification issues.

Due to the difficulty in getting to Lagos due to traffic congestion, the majority of the cargoes entering the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) from the hinterland, notably from some states in the Southwest, will be redirected to the new cargo airport, he noted.

"The cargo airport's position is distinctive in that it can be reached via the Abeokuta-Sagamu, Lagos-Ibadan, Lagos-Ore-Benin, and Lagos-Epe roads.
"The airport has been hailed as Nigeria's first of its kind and fastest construction project. The governor Gbenga Daniel administration came up with the idea ten years ago. However, the Dapo Abiodun administration really began work on it last year.

The airport will operate passenger flights in addition to serving as a hub for freight, and many airlines have already expressed interest. The Sagamu Interchange region and the section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway between the interchange and Lagos, which is already transforming into an industrial hub with the installation of numerous enterprises, are other areas that the state administration anticipates the airport would further open up.
