Many psychologists and therapists have embarked on this journey of self-exploration and transformation to demystify personality and reveal its true potential.


Let's start with the obvious, What is Personality? Personality is the set of thought patterns, emotions and behaviors that characterize an individual and distinguish them from others. It is that unique spark that makes us who we are, and is formed through the interaction between genetic, environmental and social factors.


Personality develops, is built throughout a person's life, influenced by a variety of factors:


Genetics: We inherit certain personality traits from our parents, such as the predisposition to be extroverted or introverted.


  • Environment: The environment in which we grow, our family, social and cultural experiences, shape our personality.


  • Experiences: Significant events in our lives, both positive and negative, can influence our personality. For example, a traumatic experience can lead to major changes in the way we relate to the world.


  • Cognition: Our thoughts and beliefs also play a crucial role in forming our personality. The way we interpret and process information can affect our attitudes and behaviors.


It is important to understand that personality is not static or immutable, but rather exists on a continuum. This means that our personality can change and evolve over time, especially with conscious work and introspection.

Returning to the initial question of this article: Is it possible to change personality? This is a question that has generated intense debate among psychology experts. While it is true that certain aspects of personality may be more difficult to change than others, such as core traits such as extroversion or neuroticism, it is also possible to work on specific areas and achieve significant change.


The ability to adapt and learn from new experiences is an integral part of human personality. Through self-knowledge and therapeutic work, we can expand our emotional and behavioral flexibility, allowing us to develop new skills and ways of being. Neuroscience research has shown that the brain is incredibly adaptable and malleable throughout life. This means that, even in adulthood, we can change the structure and function of our brain through deliberate practice and repetition, which can have a significant impact on our personality.


Ultimately, the question of whether personality can be changed has no definitive answer. It depends on a variety of factors, including the disposition of the individual, the therapeutic approach used and the context in which it is located.
