The Anatolian Civilizations Museum is one of Turkey's most important museums, located in Ankara. The museum exhibits archaeological artifacts from civilizations that have lived in Anatolia, chronologically arranged.

The museum was founded in 1921 by the order of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The museum's first name was "Asar-ı Atika Museum". The museum was first established in the Akkale Tower of Ankara Castle. Later, in 1938, it took its present form with the addition of Mahmut Paşa Bedesteni and Kurşunlu Han.

The museum exhibits about 2 million artifacts reflecting the history of Anatolia from the Paleolithic Age to the Ottoman Period. These artifacts include artifacts from the Hittite, Phrygian, Lydian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Seljuk periods.

Some of the most important artifacts in the museum include:

  • Hittite Sun Disc from Alaca Höyük



  • Tablets of the Hittite Laws, the famous laws of the Hittite Empire, from Bogazköy



  • The mosaic floor of a theater from the Hellenistic period, from Aspendos
  • Capitals from a temple of Artemis from the Roman period, from Ephesus
  • A minbar from the Seljuk period, from Sivas
