Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin backs Optimism’s proposal

Buterin supported the proposal made by Optimism to change the use of OP tokens from a governance token to a major network token for gas payments
Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, tweeted that he is proud of Optimism for adding non-token governance (the Citizen House). He further wrote that Optimism has defined aims other than “make OP go up,” and the only long-term method to achieve that is through the explicit representation of non-token-holder interests.
Notably, Buterin has backed Optimism’s proposal to change the use of OP tokens from a governance token to a major network token for gas payments. Furthermore, he shared links to a prior blog post, wherein he discusses how decentralized governance (DeGoV) is both necessary and hazardous. He also goes through the procedures that can be taken to reduce the dangers in DeGov.
To this, Icy Apes, a Twitter user commented,
Holy shit the SEC would have a field day with you people. There is such a thing as fiduciary duty in the real world.
And, this comment was met with a reply from Buterin who stated,
If “fiduciary duty” means “you have a duty to make profit maximization your only goal”, then fiduciary duty is an evil concept and we have a moral duty to rebel against it, regardless of legality. Fortunately I don’t think the law says anything like “you have to profit-maximize”
Optimism(OP) governance token
Ethereum’s scaling solution at Layer 2 Optimism’s governance tokens (OP) was issued earlier this week. In the widely anticipated debut, however, the OP token price has plummeted by more than 50% since then.
Token House and Citizen House are the two hubs of Optimism. OP governance tokens are supported by the Token House portal, allowing holders to vote on various Optimism-centric projects. The Citizen House focuses on non-government efforts like delivering retroactive public goods from the Optimism network’s fees.
Furthermore, Optimism Tweeted a warning to users. The warning states that in the aftermath of the recent instances, a slew of Optimism fraudulent accounts has popped up. They even shared their Discord channel link in the thread.
