We Must Know Our Enemy in Cybersecurity
AI makes protecting our digital technology, assets, and data more challenging. Cybersecurity must adapt as threats are becoming more powerful with AI.
We must know our enemy.
If we only focus our attention on our posture, we miss some of the most critical aspects to defense: the targets, objectives, capabilities, and likely methods of the threat agents that seek to cause harms.
Traditional cybersecurity has often focused inward towards our assets and defenses. What do we have and where is it stored? What is vulnerable? What do we need to protect the most?
That is no longer enough. We need threat awareness that looks outward too. What tools are attackers using? Where are they gaining efficiency? Which vectors are becoming faster, cheaper, and more convincing? That mindset shift lets us allocate resources more intelligently instead of spreading them evenly across everything.
