Early life and college career

Duncan was born on April 25, 1976, in Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands. He attended St. Dunstan's Episcopal High School, where he was a standout player on the basketball team. Duncan was recruited by many top college basketball programs, but he chose to attend Wake Forest University.
At Wake Forest, Duncan played for coach Dave Odom. He was a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection and was named the ACC Player of the Year in 1997. Duncan led the Demon Deacons to the NCAA Tournament in each of his four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 1997.

NBA career

Duncan was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs with the first overall pick in the 1997 NBA draft. He quickly became a star for the Spurs, leading them to their first NBA championship in 1999. Duncan was named the NBA Finals MVP in 1999 and 2003.
Duncan continued to be a dominant force in the NBA throughout his career. He won three more NBA championships with the Spurs in 2005, 2007, and 2014. He was also named the NBA MVP in 2002 and 2003.
Duncan was a 15-time NBA All-Star and a 15-time All-NBA selection. He was also named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team eight times and the NBA All-Defensive Second Team seven times.
