If there is one thing that never goes out of fashion, it is the art of writing — such is the quintessence of human civilisation that thoughts be engrained in words that can endure beyond time. Writing is as fruitful a journey as it can be rewarding, both spiritually and financially. The advent of the blockchain has presented a paradigm shift for the technologically-inclined author, such that writing can now be easily monetized with cryptocurrency. Below is a carefully-curated list of popular platforms to publish cryptocurrency-related articles, some of which pay writers in cryptocurrencies themselves.

  1. Medium

My all-time favourite platform from this list is Medium, which boasts articles on a plethora of topics catering to a wide range of audience, of which cryptocurrency-related articles abound. Amidst the dynamic landscapes of blockchain and cryptocurrency, Medium presents a potpourri of interesting reads, ranging from AI to trading bots to passive income ideas — whichever tickles your fancy. It is as such little wonder that Medium is hugely popular among cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
Writers can leverage Medium’s broad audience by joining its partner program, which comes with a few requirements — most notably of which is a paid membership costing $5/ month. While this is hardly a hefty sum, it may add a degree of lacklustre tint to Medium’s appeal as a platform for writers looking purely to monetize their writings, in comparison to other similar free alternatives. Nonetheless, given the rich experience that Medium affords for both the writer and reader, it remains a hugely popular platform for publication of articles. In addition, from my personal experience, Medium’s views tend to stay relatively consistent over time — a perk rarely afforded by other websites. Payouts are made through Stripe to writers’ local bank accounts.

2. Publish0x
As its name may have cleverly insinuated, Publish0x is a platform dedicated to cryptocurrency-related topics. My favourite hang-out is the “Popular” section, which features trending articles covering a wide variety of cryptocurrency-related topics, often high quality in nature. For starters, Publish0x is perhaps the fastest way to reach out quickly to a broad audience, but the outreach often dies out quickly as time progresses — in other words, new articles seem to get promoted more than old articles, hence the spike in views upon every article publication.

Both readers and writers can earn on Publish0x. As a reader, you may tip writers from a proportion of 20–100% of your ‘tipping quota’ which derives from Publish0x’s advertising revenue. The minimum amount of tip you can send to an author is 20%, which leaves the remaining 80% for you (at maximum). There is a cooldown period between tips, and a maximum amount of tips to be given on any day, per account.
On the other side of the fence, writers can look forward to getting paid in cryptocurrencies — currently being Ethereum and OP, from readers’ tips. Payouts once requested are processed weekly on Mondays to a preferred cryptocurrency wallets.
It is worth noting that Publish0x takes offences quite seriously, such as creating multiple accounts (for tipping/ writing) and plagiarism among many others, which may result in a permanent ban.

3. Read.cash
Read.cash is an excellent platform to earn in the cryptocurrency BCH for your submissions. As a writer, you can receive tips from your readers, and also from its tipping bot — The Random Rewarder, which reads through articles posted and tips the writers depending on the quality and impact of the writing. Payouts go to a BCH wallet that is generated upon signup, and is freely withdrawable at any time of your convenience, or can also be used to boost article views. While read.cash tend to feature more informal articles on personal experiences, it also has a fair share of crypto-related content.

4. Vocal.media
Vocal.media is somewhat similar to Medium in terms of its operation, layout and payout methods, although probably less diverse compared to its bigger sibling. Finance-related topics aren’t the most popular headings here, but do make an appearance every now and then.

5. Steemit
Launched in 2016, Steemit is the longest-running blockchain-based blogging and social media website that rewards writers in its own token — STEEM, for publishing and curating content. Steemit features a variety of content, of which cryptocurrency-related topics seem to be also quite a popular genre. Users can earn money by posting original content, commenting on other people’s posts, upvoting posts from their favorite creators, or curating content from the network.

6. Hive
Similiar in concept to Steemit, the Hive Blog is also a blockchain-based blogging platform that rewards writers in Hive, its native cryptocurrency token.

7. inLeo
Formerly known as Leo Finance, inLeo is a a blockchain-based social network platform for crypto and finance related content, thaleverages blockchain database technology to store content and transactions. The community content is focused around finance and the connection to a blockchain allows both readers and writers to participate in a daily pool of LEO token rewards.

A Note on Markdown

Markdown is a lightweight markup language that is used to add formatting elements to plaintext text documents. It is worth noting that platforms such as Steemit, Hive and inLeo require articles to be written in the Markdown format. As such, when pasting articles from other sources into these platforms (such as when cross-publishing articles across different platforms), text formatting may be lost — a problem which may be fixed by an arduous process of manual revision of the formatting into the Markdown format. Thankfully, there is a free tool that automates this, which can be found here. Simply copy your source text (along with its formatting) and paste it into the Markdown converter to produce an output in the Markdown format, which would then be ready for use!

Final Thoughts

Writers passionate on the engaging topic of cryptocurrency such as myself have found the above platforms invaluable in enhancing engagement with a broader audience and being a part of the bustling cryptocurrency community. Writing is, afterall, a timeless art that transcends the boundaries of culture, time and place.
