Conservatives in Australia are MAGA-fying. Fast.

No, the actual terrorists are in the ranks of the Liberals themselves: the right-wingers who are prepared to not only repudiate the Liberals’ traditions and principles in favour of denying science and basic economics, but also to wreck their party in doing so. These are the terrorists who blew up Malcolm Turnbull’s leadership twice when he tried to lead them to what would have been an insipid and unambitious, but politically workable, climate policy. These are the terrorists who will use the Nationals’ abandonment to urge an end to net zero, or such a comprehensive disembowelling of what is already a near-worthless climate policy that the Coalition commitment to any climate action will itself be net zero.

Australia may be on a trajectory where One Nation overtakes the Coalition to become the main right-wing party. Far-right parties have already overtaken centre-right parties in some European countries.
In the United Kingdom, the Election Maps UK poll aggregate has the far-right Reform party leading with 30.5%, followed by Labour at 19.1%, the Conservatives at 17.5%, the Liberal Democrats at 13.4% and the Greens at 12.6%. With the UK’s first-past-the-post voting system, Reform would win a majority of House of Commons seats on this polling.

MAGA wants war. No one else does.

That is, whether or not Australia pre-emptively agrees to deploy its putative nuclear submarines in cooperation with the US Navy in the event of a conflict with China, Australia is already directly funding the deployment of more US submarines against China than would otherwise be the case. We might — conceivably — refuse to allow our submarines to join a US war on China, but we’ve already sent billions into the battle on the US side.

Don't believe MAGA media, real Australians reject MAGA

New research has revealed that just 8% of Australians strongly agree that Australia “shares values” with Donald Trump’s United States.
The polling, commissioned by the Australia Institute, comes after Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles in May said that Australia and the United States “share values” including “democracy and the rule of law”.
Dr Emma Shortis, Director of the Australia Institute’s International & Security Affairs Program, said it was clear Australians do not agree with Mr Marles.
“Australians are often told that we “share values” with the United States,” Dr Shortis said.
“These numbers suggest that Australians are far from convinced that we share values with Donald Trump’s America.”
