Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to perceive, interpret, demonstrate, control, and use emotions in order to effectively and constructively communicate with and relate to others. It is necessary to be able to express and control one's emotions, but it is also necessary to be able to understand, interpret, and respond to the emotions of others.

Components of Emotional Intelligence
According to researchers, there are four levels of emotional intelligence: emotional perception, the ability to reason with emotions, the ability to understand emotions, and the ability to manage emotions.

Emotion perception: The first step in understanding emotions is to accurately perceive them. Understanding nonverbal signals such as body language and facial expressions may be required in many cases.

Emotional reasoning: The next step is to use emotions to promote thinking and cognitive activity. Emotions help us prioritize what we pay attention to and react to; we emotionally react to things that catch our attention.

Understanding emotions: The emotions we feel can have a wide range of meanings. When someone expresses angry emotions, the observer must interpret what the person's anger could mean. For example, if your boss is angry, it could be because they are dissatisfied with your work, they received a speeding ticket on their way to work that morning, or they have been fighting with their partner.

Managing emotions: The ability to effectively manage emotions is a critical component of emotional intelligence at the highest level. Emotional management includes regulating emotions, responding appropriately, and responding to the emotions of others.
