Would You Activate the Mirror Twin Protocol?
What if another “you” existed and could take over your life at any moment?
Let’s say scientists just made a breakthrough and called it the Mirror Twin Protocol. They can create your perfect clone with same memories, personality, and goals. At random moments, without warning, you and your Mirror Twin can swap places. Your consciousness jumps into their life, and theirs into yours. But once a swap happens, you can’t undo it manually. You’re stuck in the new reality until fate triggers another random swap (if it ever does).
The idea sounds like chaos, but it’s also kind of tempting.Wmhy would I try it out if it existed?
First off, I get double the possibilities. I now exist in two timelines. If one path goes wrong, the other might lead somewhere better.
And as for that constant feeling of stagnation that comes with adulthood? I might randomly wake up in a world where things actually worked out. Maybe in that world, I wasn’t too embarrassed to ask my crush out before he moved on to someone else. Maybe I didn’t have to wrestle with imposter syndrome. Maybe I was on time for $TRUMP. Lmao.
I could literally meet a version of myself that didn’t fold under pressure.
Living multiple lives even sporadically might make me wiser, more adaptable, and more empathetic. There are things you only truly understand with time, and multiple lives mean multiple perspectives.
It’s messy to think about it like this, but oh well.
But then… there’s the chaos. The total loss of control.
You could swap during a job interview, a breakup, or while driving. The randomness makes planning or consistency nearly impossible.
And what if your twin lives in worse circumstances? They might be poor, sick, heartbroken or even cursed. You’d be stuck there until fate decides you’ve had enough.
Imagine your Mirror Twin says something wild to your best friend, and you have to deal with the fallout.
But for me, the biggest risk is existential burnout.
Constantly adapting to new lives could chip away at your sense of self.
Who are you, really, if your life keeps shifting under your feet?
Anyway, these are the kinds of thoughts you start having when you binge too many episodes of Rick and Morty.
But how about you?
Would you activate the Mirror Twin Protocol?
Why or why not?
