Erin Moriarty

Erin Elair Moriarty, born on June 24, 1994, is an American actress recognized for her portrayal of Annie January, also known as Starlight, in the series "The Boys," a role she has held since 2019. Before her breakthrough in "The Boys," Moriarty gained attention for her performances in several television series, including "Jessica Jones" (2015), "True Detective" (2014), and "Red Widow" (2013).


In addition to her television work, Moriarty has showcased her talent in acclaimed independent films such as "The Kings of Summer" and "Captain Fantastic," demonstrating her versatility and range as an actress. With her compelling performances across various mediums, Moriarty has established herself as a rising star in the entertainment industry, garnering both critical acclaim and a growing fan base.


Erin Elair Moriarty was born and raised in New York City. She discovered her passion for acting at a young age and began honing her skills by participating in community theater productions. At the age of 11, Moriarty landed her first starring role as Annie in a local production of the musical "Annie." Despite her academic achievements, upon graduating from high school, she made the decision to defer attending college in order to fully pursue her acting career.


Erin Moriarty began her professional acting career as a teenager, landing roles in television series such as "One Life to Live" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." However, her breakout came with notable roles in both television and film. In 2012, she portrayed Vince Vaughn's daughter in the comedy film "The Watch." Following this, she appeared as Kelly, the love interest of Nick Robinson's character, in the indie comedy "The Kings of Summer" in 2013. Additionally, Moriarty starred as Natalie in the ABC drama series "Red Widow," portraying a daughter determined to uncover the truth about her father's ties to organized crime.


Continuing her momentum, Moriarty secured a supporting role in the sci-fi film "After the Dark," which premiered in 2013. She also had a recurring role as Audrey Hart in the first season of "True Detective," where she played the problematic daughter of Woody Harrelson's character. In 2014, Moriarty was recognized by IndieWire as one of the best actors under the age of twenty.


Although she was cast in the horror film "Ouija," her scenes were ultimately cut from the final release following re-shoots. However, her career continued to ascend, and in February 2015, it was announced that she had joined the main cast of Netflix's "Jessica Jones." In the show's first season, released later that year, Moriarty portrayed Hope, a college student whose life is deeply affected by the show's main villain, Kilgrave.


Erin Moriarty continued to build on her diverse acting portfolio with notable roles in various films and television series. In 2016, she appeared alongside Mel Gibson in the film "Blood Father," where her performance as Gibson's daughter garnered praise from several critics. Later that year, she starred in the horror film "Within" and had a supporting role in the critically acclaimed "Captain Fantastic," for which she received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.


In 2018, Moriarty starred in the LD Entertainment feature film "The Miracle Season" alongside Danika Yarosh and Helen Hunt. Additionally, she appeared in several other films including "The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir," "Monster Party," and "Driven," which premiered at the Venice Film Festival.


However, one of Moriarty's most significant roles came in December 2017 when she was cast as Annie January, also known as Starlight, in Amazon Studios' adaptation of the comic book series "The Boys." The series was released in July 2019, gaining widespread acclaim for its unique take on the superhero genre. The show's second season premiered in September 2020, and a third season is scheduled for release in June 2022.


It's disheartening to hear that Erin Moriarty has been subjected to misogynistic trolling and verbal abuse, particularly over false accusations regarding plastic surgery. Unfortunately, social media platforms can sometimes become breeding grounds for such behavior. Moriarty's decision to take a break from Instagram to address this issue reflects the importance of prioritizing mental health and well-being in the face of online harassment.
