Things enter our subconscious mind unknowingly. One day we feel so happy and another day there is melancholy in the air. In the hustle of life, we often forget to cheer ourselves up. We work for betterment – for food, for necessities, for Veblen goods and often in the race we forget to eat healthy, to drink water, to stay active. We are so lost in the maze of life as Hem & Haw were. “What you seek is seeking you.”- Rumi, so what are we looking for? As World Hypertension Day (17th May) passed by, I felt the sudden urge to do something to eradicate it, and the impromptu I could do was to write, to make the readers aware.

According to WHO, hypertension is a serious medical condition that significantly increases the risks of heart, brain, kidney and other diseases. It occurs when blood pressure is too high. Around 23% of Indians suffer from uncontrollable blood pressure. It is no longer Dadi saying, “Haaye Ram! Mera BP badh gya.” Now even the youngsters suffer from blood pressure issues and it’s all because “Only work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” We need to re-outlook our lifestyle and to make sure no matter where life takes us, our goal is to smile, to cheer up because maybe life is a hap-hazard journey but fastening seat-belts 24×7 never helps much. In order to reduce the prevalence of hypertension, stress, depression, obesity, etc we can make small amendments to our life.

Following the secret of making big changes, we can try to wake up 5 mins before we usually do in the morning, drink more and more water, and make our bed in the morning. Making bed in the morning can do more than we can even think of, it provides an aura of optimism and hope, a sense of completeness. With the use of our smartphones, we can walk 500 more steps daily. Every time we eat food full of fats let’s get reminded of our sweet Late Dr. Hathi. As long as, we keep on doing these things for a month or two, we feel accomplished, more confident and loyal towards us and the secret will hold true yet again because when we start doing these things our subconscious mind will develop a sense of them. Imagine how often we forget to brush our teeth? No, we usually don’t. Because we have been following this for years.

Planning something we love to do at the end of work daily makes us look forward to it, to remain active. Even if on some bad days, when tears come down rolling down our face, my advice to you is to do that thing. It will make you relieved and happy. Hypertension is termed as ‘silent killer’ and happiness is ‘silent creator’. Recreate yourself with hope, laughter and habits that make you happy.
