Reviews are the easiest way to grow a business that works consistently, yet no one focuses on them.

I started a business 3 years ago while working a full-time job. Now it does millions in revenue and helps others buy businesses and make money.
What was the secret sauce? Reviews.
Reviews are the #1 way to grow a business fast. Let me explain why they are so powerful:

  • 93% of customers read reviews before making a purchase
  • 90% won’t buy if there are less than 3.5 stars
  • 58% will pay more and travel further for better reviewed businesses
  • Unhappy customers are 10x more likely to leave reviews
  • It takes 10–20x more positive reviews to negate one negative review

TLDR: If you want to build a big business, obsess over getting reviews.
Typically only 12% of customers leave reviews when asked. So make it your goal to get reviews from that 12% ASAP.
Below I’ll explain the 14 tactics I used to get thousands of reviews and grow my business from $0 to over $1 million in revenue.
We strongly recommend that you check out our guide on how to take advantage of AI in today’s passive income economy.

1. Use the Ultimate Mind Hack

When your service providers complete a job, have an auto-text sent to the customer thanking them for being an amazing client. Then ask them to leave a review for that person if they were happy with the service.
This triggers the reciprocity principle. By thanking them upfront, they’ll feel inclined to say thanks back with a review.
One company I worked with did this and got 20% more reviews overnight.
Let me demonstrate how this works…
Melissa just bought one of my investing courses, so I’ll ping her directly and ask for a review if she liked it. Easy!

2. Create a Positive Review Loop

When someone posts something great about your product or service, have a process to immediately ask them for a review.
Usually I just reply “awesome!”, but instead I now say:
“So glad to hear it was helpful! If you have a minute, we’d greatly appreciate you leaving us a review on [insert review site].”
People are already in a positive mindset after a good experience, so reviews come flooding in.
I just did this on a post praising my program. Let’s see if it works!

3. Host Events and Get Real-Time Reviews

A coffee shop owner started hosting monthly community events at his shop.
He would walk around, greet people, and ask if they could leave a Google review to support their small business.
This personal ask led to thousands of reviews overnight and more customers than the cafe could handle.
I tried this at one of my live events. Check out the results:
Reviews came pouring in across various sites! The first event was expensive, so I wouldn’t recommend copying that.
Instead, I had members host their own local meetups. Cost me nothing and I still got a flood of new reviews!

4. Respond to Every Review

We have a Slack channel where our team responds to every single review and testimonial, positive or negative.
For positive reviews, we respond with some personality:
“Your review keeps me in business! Our love language is good reviews. Thank you for supporting this small biz.”
For negative reviews, apologize and offer to make it right. Treat them like a human with real concerns.
This personalized response doubled our review volume.

5. Text Customers for Tips & Reviews

My friend runs a large service business. He started texting customers this after jobs:
“Leave our tech a 5-star review. Mention Miguel’s name and we’ll tip him $10 for you!”
It led to hundreds more reviews overnight. The best part? The customers don’t actually have to pay the tip!
I’m going to try this in my biz. I’ll ping members who helped others and offer a bonus if they tag us on social.

6. Set Up an Automated Review Request Drip Campaign

Johnny ran a cleaning biz and used automated texts and emails to ask every customer for a review after their appointment.
In less than a year, they added 300+ new reviews across various sites. This social proof led to a surge in sales.
I’m going to set up a drip campaign to go out to my course members after they complete the program.

7. Stack Reviews for Social Proof

Put all your testimonials, case studies, and reviews in one place to impress visitors.
When potential customers see a huge stack of positive reviews, they can’t help but trust you.
One handyman company buried their reviews at the bottom of their site. Reviews were hard to find and fake looking.
I put our real reviews front and center on every page of my site. This builds instant trust and credibility.

8. Make Your Review Requests Memorable

Most review asks are boring. I immediately throw away generic review cards and emails.
One pool service company started leaving funny meme cards after cleanings that simply said:
“We were here and you looked great! Can we please please please get a review from you? It’s everything to our small biz.”
These got 3x more reviews than their boring cards. Gotta make it memorable!

9. Run a Review Giveaway

We ran a giveaway asking subscribers to write a review or refer a friend.
For every review/referral, they got entered into a prize drawing.
This campaign exploded our reviews and email list. You should try it too!

10. Surprise Customers and Create a “Wow” Moment

Sometimes you just gotta surprise people with an unexpected gift. No reason given.
Every new member in my community gets a mystery box mailed to them with fun free gifts inside.
This delights people and leads to excited social shares and reviews of our business. Gotta create those magic moments!

11. Use Milestones to Catch People in a Positive Mood

When customers reach success milestones on your platform, congratulate them!
We made funny tombstone graphics people get when they buy a business. After the excitement, we ask for a review.
People love praise. Catch them when they’re happy and they’ll gladly leave you a review.

12. Work for Reviews Instead of Money at First

When launching a new product, don’t ask for money upfront. Ask for reviews.
Give it to test users for free in exchange for feedback and a testimonial.
One raving fan who you treat really well can organically promote you to tons of potential customers.
Reviews over revenue in the beginning!

13. Ask Your Network for Reviews

Before you even launch, ask friends and family for reviews.
I don’t understand businesses with zero reviews. It’s just lazy.
When I launched my course, I already had hundreds of reviews before it went live by having my community test it early.
Reach out to your personal network right away for quick early reviews.

14. Go Door-to-Door if Needed

If you’re struggling to get traction, do what it takes.
Knock on customer doors and ask for reviews. Set up phone calls. Send personal emails.
Great businesses are built on trust and word of mouth. Do whatever it takes to get those first loyal customers and reviews.
Once you have social proof, the rest takes care of itself.
So there you have it — the 14 tactics I used to get thousands of reviews and grow my business from nothing to over $1 million in 12 months.
Reviews are the easiest and most consistent way to explode your growth. Start focusing on them today!
Let me know if you have any other review-getting hacks in the comments! I’d love to hear what’s been working for you. Now get out there and start collecting reviews!
