Creating ‘good’ AGI that won’t kill us all: Cryptoverse’s Sassy Take on AI

The Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) Alliance announced their high-riding ambitions to create Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) which, get this, is supposed to make everyone’s lives better. Be right back — just checking if Skynet has been taken as a domain name yet…

Not Doomsday…Yet

Don’t load your bunker with canned beans and bottled water just yet. AI is known for previous, ahem, ‘mishaps’, but let’s not judge a bot by its coder, shall we? The AI community isn’t exactly known for their chill, but let’s just say that Armageddon might be taking a rain check this season.

The Big Plan

The ASI Alliance proposes a distributed and decentralized approach towards AGI development, which should, in theory, stop any rogue AGI from going all ‘The Terminator’ on us. If success is declared then what lies ahead is not the bleak dystopia of AI annihilation, but a brave new world dancing to the beat of “AGI for All” — AI that benefits humanity as a whole. Sounds peachy, but can they actually pull it off? That’s the big question.

The Challenge

Let’s get real. Creating an AGI that’s ‘everyone’s best buddy’ is as achievable as herding cats on a skateboard, blindfolded. The complexity of making an AI that does no harm (in a world where humans can’t even agree on what ‘harm’ means) might be a tall order. But hey, I’m all for miracles.

Wrapping Up

The ASI Alliance has thrown down the gauntlet in what is arguably one of the biggest tech challenges of our era. While I’d advise against putting your survivalist plans on hold, this could either go down as the most elite episode of Punk’d or the heralding of a fantastic leap for mankind. Let’s hope they manage to not, you know, end the world in the process.
