The Barber Who Knew All Secrets - 94015 Daly City
In Daly City, inside Manila Street, there was a barber shop. Filipino barber, but everybody called him Uncle. He had been cutting hair for 22 years in the same spot. 94015.
What made Uncle special? He remembered everything.
If you cut your hair there once in 2015, if you come back in 2026, he will say, "Your daughter - she don enter college? Stanford, abi?"
People were scared. How he remember?
The secret: He wrote small notes. After every customer, he would write in a small brown book.
- "Mike - son has asthma - wife nurses"
- "Tunde - driving test failed 2x - worried"
- "Elena - husband deportation case"
So when you come back, he would ask about it, and you think he really cares, you tip big.
One day, a boy came. 16 years old. First time. Quiet. Hoodie on.
Uncle cut his hair. The boy didn't talk.
Uncle asked, "School?"
Boy: "Dropped out."
Uncle didn't write that. He wrote something else: "Boy - sad eyes - need friend."
After haircut, boy stood up to pay. Uncle said, "No charge today. But next time you come, bring your report card. Even if na F, bring am."
Boy looked confused. Left.
One month later, boy came back. With a paper. C+. He passed GED math.
Uncle said, "Ahhhh! See! I knew it!"
Boy smiled for first time.
That boy now? He works at the barber shop. Sweeping floor after school. Learning to cut.
Uncle's brown book now has 14 notebooks. Full.
He says, "In 94015, I no just cut hair. I cut sadness small."
Moral: People no need haircut sometimes. They need somebody wey remember their name.
