The Voicemail We Didn’t Delete
I’m doing well, Steve. Thank you for asking.
The office is in order. There’s a voicemail on the office line that nobody has deleted. It’s from 3 months ago. Your voice. “Team, let’s meet by 9. Bring your updates and your ideas.” We play it sometimes when the week gets long. It reminds us how you led.
Lagos was good this week. We hit the targets, paid everyone on time, and the client sent a thank-you note. I handled the small logistics issue and kept the schedule tight. We’re running things the way you taught us — no cutting corners, no panic.
I hope you’re doing well too. I hope you’re speaking kindly to yourself the way you spoke to us. I hope your phone isn’t ringing too much and your mind is quiet.
_Que sera, sera._ Whatever will be, will be. We can’t control what comes next, but we can be faithful with what’s here now.
Your voice is still saved. Your instructions are still on the board. Your chair is still waiting.
Come back when you’re ready. We’ll play a new voicemail together — the one where you say “we did it.”
