The symbol that represents all countries in the world is the flag of that country. Flags expressing the independence of each nation are designed inspired by events or people throughout history. Each flag has its own meaning. Some flags that contain symbols also contain symbols.

The countries where we will look at the meanings of their flags are in order:

  1. Republic of Türkiye
  2. United States of America
  3. Federative Republic of Brazil
  4. People's Republic of China
  5. Federal Republic of Germany
  6. United Kingdom
  7. French Republic
  8. Kingdom of Spain
  9. Russian Federation
  10. Japan

Republic of Türkiye

According to Article 3 of the 1982 Constitution, 'it is a red flag with a white crescent and star, the shape of which is specified in the law.' According to Article 7 of the Turkish Flag Law No. 2893, "The Turkish Flag cannot be used in any way that is torn, ripped, patched, holed, dirty, faded, wrinkled or in any way that would damage the moral value it deserves." It cannot be spread on tables, podiums or as a cover for any purpose other than official oath ceremonies. It cannot be placed in places where people sit or step. The shape of the flag cannot be made on these places or similar items. It can not be worn as a dress or uniform. It cannot be used as a basis or background on the front or back of the emblems, pennants, symbols and similar of any political party, organization, association, foundation or institution or organization other than the public institutions and organizations specified in the statute. The Turkish Flag cannot be insulted or disrespected in words, writing or gestures or in any other way. "The flag cannot be torn, burned, thrown on the ground, or used without due care."

Its meaning is that a small lake is formed from the blood of our martyrs in war. This represents the red in the flag. The reflection of the moon and star on its surface represents the moon and star on our flag.

United States of America

It consists of red, white and blue colors. Six of the stripes, 13 in total, are white and seven are red, symbolizing the Thirteen Colonies that rebelled against the United Kingdom during the founding of the country. There are 50 white stars symbolizing the states of the country in the blue rectangle in the upper left corner. The Thirteen Colonies are the founding states of the USA.

White: purity, cleanliness; red heroism, courage; Blue represents determination.

Federative Republic of Brazil

The green background color of the flag represents the country's large forests and lands, the yellow rhombus in the middle; It symbolizes Brazil's large gold reserves. The band passing through the middle of the globe reads "Ordem e Progresso". This means peace and development. The 27 five-pointed stars inside the globe represent the 27 federal states in Brazil.

In addition, the arrangement of these stars is not random, but according to astronomical principles.

People's Republic of China

The flag, officially called the Red Flag in the country, consists of a large yellow star and four small stars located in the left corner of the flag on top of the red color. The color red is used as the symbol of communism and the Chinese Han Nation, and the large yellow star represents the leadership of the communist party. The four small stars curved to the right of the big yellow star represent the four classes in the country (Farmers, Workers, Petty Bourgeois and companies that sided with communism against the Japanese during the China War).

Federal Republic of Germany

History of the colors that make up the flag: In the war against Napoleon in 1813, due to the difficulties Prussia experienced in terms of both money and soldiers, the voluntary Freikorps union, consisting mostly of university students, was established under the leadership of Lützow. When military uniforms of various colors were painted black from head to toe due to lack of money, the piece of cloth under the yellow buttons remained red, which is considered the history of the colors that make up the German flag today. With the decision taken on June 7, 1950, the meaning of the colors was determined as Unity, Rights and Freedom. The German flag is divided into two as the national flag and the official flag. The national flag, which came into use on May 23, 1949, is the civil flag of the country.

The official flag, which has an eagle motif in the middle, is used by state-affiliated institutions.

United Kingdom

The first version appeared after the Scottish king James VI became king of England in 1606, resulting from the superimposition of the Scottish flag (St. Andrew's Cross; white cross on blue) and the English flag (St. George's Cross; red cross on white). It is called 'union flag'. Later, when Great Britain and Ireland united in 1801, the Irish flag (St. Patrick's Cross, a red cross on white) was added to the 'union flag' and today's flag emerged. Although Southern Ireland gained independence in 1921, the flag was not interfered with.

French Republic

It is the opinion that the words Equality, Fraternity, Liberty, the official motto of the French Revolution, are represented on the flag. The color blue means Freedom, the color white means Equality and the color red means Brotherhood.

Kingdom of Spain

There are three horizontal stripes from top to bottom, and the colors of these stripes are red, yellow (twice thick) and red, respectively. There is a coat of arms on the send side above the yellow stripe. The coat of arms includes the royal seal surrounded by the Pillars of Hercules. The columns represent the capes of Gibraltar and Ceuta, located on either side at the end of the Strait of Gibraltar. (Spain)

Russian Federation

It consists of the colors of Pan-Slavism: blue, white and red. White symbolizes the god, blue symbolizes the ruler, and red symbolizes the people. (Russia)

Japan

The red circle represents the sun rising from the country. The sun is one of the most important national symbols in Japan, whose name means 'source of the sun'. According to Japanese mythology, Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, is the queen of the Japanese gods and the mother of the Japanese emperor dynasty.
