Zodiac Signs and Personality

A zodiac sign is a sign that represents a specific constellation or position that the sun passes through. In astronomy, there is an imaginary band covering the sky which is divided into twelve sections, each 30 degrees apart. When the sun moves into any of these positions, the sign of that particular zodiac is the zodiac sign for that period. The twelve signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.

In ancient civilizations, these signs and horoscope readings were used to predict a person's personality and/or the future. There is a really interesting history behind zodiac signs and how reading the stars was used in the past. Even to date, some people believe that one's personality and fortunes can be told through zodiac signs and horoscopes.

However, one's presumed zodiac sign has no impact on their personality. Although there has been research that categorically refutes the accuracy of zodiac signs' impact on a person's personality -even NASA's children's site debunks its credibility-, most people still attribute certain behaviour and personality traits to their zodiac signs. The time of the year that the earth is in the positions as provided by the zodiac astrology has in fact changed over the years since these zodiacs were recorded. This is a result of the 'wobbly'  nature of the earth's movement called 'precession'. So in practice, the current dates of the zodiac signs are inaccurate.

The idea that zodiac signs have an impact on a person's personality has been a cause for debate over the years. Evidence now exists that proves otherwise, but firm believers in astrology would not be that easily convinced.
