The Charger That Taught Friendship

Bola and Femi were best friends since JSS1. They shared everything: food, notes, even shame. But they had one rule: “Don’t touch my charger without asking.”

One exam week, Bola forgot his charger at home. His phone hit 4% during night class. He saw Femi’s charger on the table and hesitated. “Femi won’t mind,” he thought. “We’re like brothers.” He plugged in without asking.

Femi returned, saw his charger, and exploded. “Bola! I told you don’t touch my things!” They fought. Harsh words. For the first time in 5 years, they didn’t talk for 3 days.

Exam day came. Bola’s phone died mid-registration for CBT. No charger. No OTP. He stood outside the hall panicking.

Then Femi walked up. Silent. He pulled out his power bank, his original charger, and his phone. “Use this. Register first.” Bola stared. “But we’re not talking.”

Femi shrugged. “We’re not talking, but I’m still your friend. Anger is 3 days. Friendship is 5 years.”

Bola registered. After exams, Bola bought Femi a new charger + small cake. He said, “Sorry I touched it. Sorry I assumed.” Femi replied, “Sorry I shouted. I should’ve asked why you were desperate.”

They laughed. Friendship was back. But now the rule changed: “If you need my charger, just say. I’ll say yes before you finish the sentence.”

*Moral: Real friends fight over chargers, but they’ll still save you during exams.* 🔌
