THE ENVELOPE

When Victor finished his 6-month training, he expected nothing. Just a handshake and a certificate.

He had struggled. Some nights he walked home because he had no transport fare. Some days he studied on an empty stomach. But he finished.

On the last day, his instructor called him to the front.

"Victor, come."

He walked up, confused. The instructor handed him a big brown envelope. It was heavy.

"What is this?" he asked.

"Open it when you get home."

On his way home, the envelope burned in his bag. He couldn't wait. He stopped under a mango tree and tore it open.

Inside was money. And a small folded paper. On the paper were 23 names. All the people from his group. Under the names, one line:

_"We saw your effort. Well done. This is just to say we are proud of you."_

Victor sat under that tree for a long time. He didn't count the money. He just read the names again and again.

He thought he had finished his training alone.

He was wrong.

He had finished it with 23 people behind him.
