Introduction:

Ligue 1 is the top professional football division of the French football league system. It is contested by 20 teams, with the bottom three teams relegated to the second division, Ligue 2, and the top three teams from Ligue 2 promoted to Ligue 1. The league operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Ligue 2.
The season usually runs from August to May, with teams playing 38 games each, totalling 380 games in the season. The team with the most points at the end of the season is crowned the champion of Ligue 1. In addition to the champion, the top teams in Ligue 1 also qualify for European competitions such as the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League.
Ligue 1 is one of the top five European football leagues, along with the Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, and Serie A. It has a rich history, with the first championship being held in 1932. The team has also had many notable players, such as Thierry Henry, Kylian Mbappé, and Radamel Falcao.
Apart from the traditional big clubs, Ligue 1 has seen some new successful clubs in the recent years such as Lille, Saint-Etienne, and Rennes.
