The Job Interview and the Dead Phone
Emeka had one interview. MTN. Big one.
He prepared for 2 weeks. Ironed his only shirt. Practiced answers in the mirror.
On the morning of the interview, he woke up to: 2% battery. NEPA took light. No power bank.
He ran to a cafe to charge. The light went off there too.
He got to Victoria Island with a dead phone. No map, no contact, no way to call HR.
He asked 5 people for directions. Got lost twice. Walked under hot sun.
Got to the building 4 minutes before the interview. Sweat everywhere. Shirt wrinkled.
He sat down, and the panel asked the first question: “Tell us about a time you solved a problem with limited resources.”
Emeka laughed and said, “This morning, sir.”
Then he told them the whole gist. They laughed too.
He got the job.
On his first salary day he sent his mom money and texted:
_“If it had not been for God’s grace... Ore ofe sha ni mo ri gba o.
If it had not been for His mercy... Aanu ni mo ri gba o”_
Sometimes grace walks you there with a dead phone and a sweaty shirt, and still gives you the job.
