The NEPA Bill Miracle

Kemi just moved into her own place in Surulere. Small room self-con, proud of it.

First month, NEPA brought bill: 42,000 naira. Estimated billing.
Her salary was 60k. Rent, food, transport already eating it.

She cried. Called her mom: “Mama, how will I pay this?”
Her mom just said: “My daughter, pray. _Ore ofe sha ni mo ri gba o_.”

Two days later, Kemi went to the NEPA office to complain. Met a long queue. People were shouting. When it got to her turn, the officer looked at her bill and frowned.

He typed something, checked again, then said: “Omo, your meter number was mixed with another house. This 42k is not yours. Your own is 4,200.”

Kemi couldn’t talk. She just stood there.

She paid the 4,200 and walked out singing under her breath:
_“If it had not been for your grace...
If it had not been for your mercy...
Aanu ni mo ri gba o”_

That month she bought a small fridge with the money she saved.
Sometimes grace looks like a typo that gets corrected.
