Minecraft Server Removes Play-to-Earn Feature

An independent Minecraft PC game server, known as Satlantis, is making the decision to eliminate its play-to-earn functionality that rewarded players with Bitcoin. This choice comes in response to a request from Mojang, the creator of Minecraft and a subsidiary of Microsoft.

David Dineno, the founder of the Satlantis server, shared this development in a Discord post. According to Dineno, Mojang had specifically asked the server administrators to remove the play-to-earn feature, which permitted users to accumulate and withdraw small amounts of Bitcoin.

Dineno clarified in a subsequent post that the removal of the play-to-earn functionality would take effect at 12 p.m. ET on the upcoming Monday. He urged players to withdraw their satoshis, the smallest Bitcoin denomination, from the Minecraft server. Nonetheless, the Satlantis creators indicated their intention to reintroduce this concept in another game, although they did not specify which game this would be. Dineno conveyed his disappointment, expressing that the situation was unfortunate and seemingly unavoidable.

Despite this setback, Dineno emphasized that Satlantis would endure, highlighting the success of the game, which shared a percentage of its profits with players. He asserted that the substantial effort and resources invested in the game would not go to waste because of a decision made by a select few in higher positions. Dineno also revealed that the Satlantis community would be transitioning to a new platform that appreciates and embraces innovation. Satlantis assured its users that, even after the specified deadline, it would continue to honor Bitcoin withdrawals from outside the game.

Additionally, they outlined plans to migrate all earnings, in-game assets, and player statuses to their upcoming game platform. However, Satlantis clarified that Bitcoin earnings would no longer be supported. Dineno further elaborated on Mojang’s request within the Discord server, stating that they had no alternative but to comply. He criticized Mojang’s demand, characterizing it as essentially instructing Minecraft players to be content with enjoyment while remaining financially disadvantaged.
