Middle East conflict - A gateway to energy crisis.
The Middle East conflicts have become a major source of global instability. Wars in this region don’t stay local , they ripple through energy markets, politics, and everyday life across the world, including countries like my homeland Pakistan.
Current Situation in the Middle East
The region is currently tense mainly due to the confrontation involving Iran, Israel, armed groups in Gaza and Lebanon, and the involvement of global powers like the United States. But in recent attacks USA involved directly into this war and it bringing vast consequences.
Several conflicts overlap,
✔️Fighting connected to the Israel Hamas War.
✔️Tensions between Israel and Iran through proxy groups.
✔️Attacks on shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.
These conflicts affect not just the region but global trade, oil supply, and economic stability.
In this war Different actors have different goals like,
Israel.
Wants security from attacks by Hamas, Hezbollah, and other groups. Also Wants to weaken Iran’s regional influence including it's missile program and nuclear weapons progress.
Iran
Wants to expand its regional influence. Supports groups opposed to Israel and U.S. influence because since 1979 when USA embassy in Tehran hit by some extremists, they are anti USA strongly. Also Wants relief from international sanctions and recognition as a major power.
United States.
Supports unconditionally Israel. Wants to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Wants stability and control in global oil supply. Wants to keep strong hold on petrodollar structure. Wants to keep the world under world order as maiden super power.
Arab States.
Some support Palestinians politically. Others prioritize stability and economic cooperation. Mostly have kingdom type governments and wants to protect it by anyway. Because these interests clash, peace becomes extremely difficult and their economics standing on tourism after oil.
Will Iran Is “Surrendering”.
I don't think so because Countries rarely “surrender” in geopolitical disputes. They came up with National pride and sovereignty. Governments avoid appearing weak domestically. Iran have long , rich history of resistance. Deterrence , Confrontation can be used to discourage attacks. So Iran believes standing firm protects its strategic position and he knows that world can't bear the warmness of war for long.
Iran and the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important oil routes in the world. Around 20% of global oil trade passes through it. Countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, and Iraq export oil through this route.
Now Iran have full control over strait of Hormuz and If Iran blocks it, ( by the time of writing these lines, Iran did it )
✔️Oil supply would drop suddenly.
✔️Global energy markets would panic.
✔️Oil prices could surge dramatically.
✔️Major military powers would likely intervene to reopen the route.
This is why the strait is considered a global economic choke point.
Inflation and Energy Prices
Energy prices affect almost everything in the economy like,
✔️Transportation
✔️Food production
✔️Electricity
✔️Manufacturing
Now oil prices raised, inflation spreads everywhere.
For example in Pakistan, the petrol rises from PKR 280 → PKR 330 per liter, it increased
✔️Transport fares
✔️Food prices
✔️Electricity costs
✔️Daily goods
This makes life much harder for ordinary people, especially those with fixed incomes. The life of a Common person/ middle class has been effected.
My point is War Hurts the World Beyond the Battlefield. Many victims are far from the battlefield. The war causing,
✔️Supply chain disruptions
✔️Energy shortages
✔️Refugee crises
✔️Inflation and poverty
So even people thousands of kilometers away feel the consequences.
In many cases, economic suffering and instability affect millions more people than the fighting itself as of now the prices of petroleum products has been increased all over the world.
Conclusion:
Middle East wars are not just regional conflicts, they influence oil routes, global markets, and daily life worldwide. If tensions escalate further, the biggest impact may indeed be economic hardship for ordinary people around the world, not just those on the battlefield. The consequences will trigger further if UNO , World leadership didn't intercept the situation quickly.
