THE OKADA MAN WHO WENT TO SCHOOL
There was an okada man in Ilorin named Sule. He never went to school.
One day he picked a professor. The professor was on phone speaking big English: "The epistemological paradigm of the metaphysical..."
Sule was just listening.
Professor dropped, Sule said, "Oga, that your big English, wetin e mean?"
Professor laughed: "You won't understand, my friend. It's for educated people."
Sule vexed small. He went home and told his wife, "I go go school."
His wife laughed: "At 42 years?"
Sule entered primary 1. At 42. With small children.
First day, teacher: "Class, what is A for?"
Small children: "Apple!"
Sule (raising hand): "A is for Atanda, my village!"
Whole class laughed.
He continued. Primary 1 to 6. He was still riding okada after school. People would see him in uniform on bike: "Sule School Boy!"
He entered JSS1. Then SS1. He was 50 now.
WAEC came, he failed English.
He wrote again. Failed.
Third time, he passed.
He entered University of Ilorin at 53 to study Philosophy. Same course that professor was talking about.
He graduated at 57. Best graduating student.
At his convocation, the school invited that same professor to give a speech.
Sule walked up to collect his certificate. The professor saw his name and remembered the okada man.
Sule collected mic and said:
"Sir, you said I won't understand. Now I will explain your epistemological paradigm to YOU."
The whole hall stood up and clapped.
Moral: No late for person wey no give up.
