Emma followed Adrian into his apartment for the first time. The space reflected him perfectly—minimalist, elegant, yet filled with shadows that seemed to hold secrets of their own. Tall windows framed the city lights, but Emma’s attention was drawn to a small wooden box resting on a shelf.

Adrian noticed her gaze. Without hesitation, he opened it. Inside lay a black mask, smooth and expressionless, like something meant to hide more than just a face.

“Why do you have this?” she asked, her voice trembling.

Adrian smiled faintly. “Sometimes, the truth is easier to tell when you’re hidden.”

The mask unsettled her, stirring both fear and curiosity. As he placed it in her hands, Emma felt the weight of it—not just the object, but the meaning behind it.

Then her breath froze. On the desk beside the mask was a single page written in her handwriting… words she had never written.
