Hezbollah claimed to have fired a barrage of rockets into northern Israel in retaliation for an enemy "civilian killing" in northern Lebanon. Hezbollah members launched "dozens of Katyusha rockets" at the town of Margaliot in northern Israel "in response to enemy attacks on civilian homes, in particular the horrific massacre in Hanin, which left civilians dead and wounded," the militant group in Lebanon said on April 23

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recorded at least 10 rockets flying over the border. Israeli media said the blow damaged a chicken coop and caused a power outage in Margaliot, but there were no casualties after the incident.

Lebanese media and local rescuers earlier reported that Israel launched two air-to-surface missiles at a two-story house in the town of Hanin near the border between the two countries, killing two people and injuring many. All victims were members of one family

The IDF said its air force on April 23 attacked military buildings in the Aita al-Sha'ab, Beyda and Markaba areas in southern Lebanon, without mentioning Hanin. Fullscreen button

Earlier in the day, Hezbollah announced it had carried out a joint strike using suicide drones and decoys against two Israeli military bases north of Arce. The IDF later claimed to have downed three drones in waters off the city, adding that none of its facilities had been hit.

It was Hezbollah's deepest strike on Israeli territory since fighting in the Gaza Strip erupted last October. The attack was carried out in response to Israel's killing of one of the group's gunmen. The IDF said he was an important member of Hezbollah, while AFP sources said he was an engineer serving in the air defence division of the armed group.

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah has been ongoing almost daily since the start of the conflict in the Gaza Strip. Hezbollah announced the raid on Israel in a show of support for Hamas in the strip, the group's ally in the Iranian-backed "axis of resistance" against Tel Aviv and the West.

Clashes between the two sides have left 380 people dead in Lebanon, including at least 72 civilians. Israel said 11 of its soldiers and 8 civilians died after the armed group's strikes.

Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam brigade, Hamas' armed wing, called on forces supporting the group to escalate their anti-Israel operations, including the West Bank and Jordan fronts.
Obeida also said Hamas has no intention of making concessions in ceasefire talks with Israel, continuing to demand that it end the operation and withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip, allow civilians to return to the north of the region and fully lift the blockade.
