1 Goal that Everyone Should Aspire To 🚀

I was reflecting on the goals I set for myself at the beginning of 2022 to see how much progress I've made on my New Year's resolutions over the past 11 months. The very first goal I had at the top of my list was this:

Finish what I start, and finish it well.

Come 2nd December 2022, this goal still resonates with me and is something I will carry forth in subsequent years. Indeed, it is a goal that I think everyone should aspire to.

Here's why.

Everyone can tell you what you should do, how you should do it and what they would have done if they were in your situation. Similarly, it is also quite easy for you to tell everyone about your grand visions and what you'll do with your future. A different question, however, is this: How many people are willing to actually "do" things and bring them to completion?

Accountability starts with a commitment to not only "starting" things, but also "finishing" them. Believe me, it's very easy to start 100 things but much harder to finish everything you start to a very high standard. It involves discipline and effort.

Looking back, I remember writing that goal because I found myself starting lots of things in 2021 or promising myself I would pursue new vocations. Sadly I finished few of these things and gave up on many. It feels rather embarrassing to admit.

And that's why I made a commitment to myself that I would finish what I started, and finish it well. Come 2022, I've found myself taking on fewer things, being far more realistic about what I can do and actually pushing myself to finish them. In doing this, I've found that I've become much more disciplined, focused and successful.

As we reach the end of 2022, you'll probably reflect on what you've done well and where you could improve. I implore you to consider this question: Do you finish what you start, and do you finish it well?
